Nason and Lucy were divorced sometime prior to 1861.
Lucy died in Naples while living with her second husband, Major W. Knight (1812-1891) whom she married 13 March 1861 (OTISFIELD VRs [op. cit.], 225). An interesting connection exists in that family: Major Knight had a daughter, Lydia, from a previous marriage (he'd been married twice before his marriage to Lucy). On 26 August 1862, Lydia Knight married one of Nason and Lucy's sons, Benjamin. As it worked out, Benjamin ended up marrying his half-sister In the meantime, Nason was living in Topsfield, Washington County, Maine.2

Latham was a lumberman and mill operator. An episode involving Latham is recalled in Spurr's HISTORY OF OTISFIELD. It seems a certain man of Otisfield had spent time in a Portland jail. While there, he contracted smallpox, from which he still suffered when he returned to Otisfield. The local doctor immediately set about to inoculate all town residents against this dreaded disease. Meanwhile, a group of seven young men "fell upon" the smallpox carrier and beat him severely. One of those young men was Latham, who was fined two dollars for his part in the fracas.2,1 Latham Ford Scribner was born on 6 October 1822 at Otisfield, Cumberland, ME, USA.1,2 He was the son of Simon L Scribner and Abigail Gerrish.1 Latham Ford Scribner married Sarah Jane Scribner, daughter of John "Bud" Scribner and Elizabeth Whitham, in 1845.2 Latham Ford Scribner died on 9 August 1874 at age 51.1

Aaron was a farmer. In 1843, the family moved from Parkman to what is now Oxbow in Aroostook County ("a mile south of what was already nearly nowhere," according to one local resident). Several years later, they moved south about 30 miles to a halfway camp near Patten in northern Penobscot County. It was at this camp that a fatal fire in 1865 took the lives of Diadoma and two of the children. Aaron suffered severe burns and died soon afterward.2 Aaron Scribner was born on 23 December 1800 at Otisfield, Cumberland, ME, USA.1,2 He was the son of Daniel Scribner and Hannah Kneeland.1 Aaron Scribner married Diadoma Stevens in 1827.1,2 Aaron Scribner died in 1865 at Patten, Penobscot, ME, USA.1,2

Miles worked as a carpenter in Springfield for some years. In 1852, at age 42 (most likely, soon after the death of Lavinia), he enlisted in the Army (Co. G, 2nd Maine Infantry Regiment)) and served nobly. He was disabled, and was discharged 18 September 1861. He filed for a Civil War Pension on 23 August 1881, according to the GENERAL INDEX OF CIVIL WAR PENSION FILES, 1861-1934 (op. cit.). While he was away during the war, Hannah lived with the Lorenzo Clark family, and son Lorenzo lived with the Stephen Gardiner family.

Daniel spent the early years of his adult life (1851-1861) as a farmer. The Civil War led him to an illustrious military and public career.
He enlisted in Co. I, 14th Maine Infantry Regiment, on 31 December 1861. After serving two years, he re-enlisted for three more (on 1 January 1864), and served as a Corporal in Co. D of the 14th Maine. He took part in the battles of Baton Rouge and Port Hudson, Louisiana, and Winchester and Opiquam Creek, Virginia, among others. It was during the Louisiana Campaign of 1863 that the regiment was without tents of any kind. The soldiers had to sleep in the open air, and many of them caught chills and fever (One finds it somewhat of a mystery as to why a number of Maine regiments were sent to fight in Louisiana, Georgia, and other southern states, where the unfamiliar climate wreaked havoc on the health and well-being of men who knew only a northern climate).
Daniel was taken prisoner at Opiquam Creek 19 September 1864 and was taken to Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia. He spent only ten days there, being transferred to Belle Isle Stockade on an island in the James River near Richmond. Then, after two months, he was taken to Annapolis, Maryland, paroled and exchanged for a Confederate prisoner. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant 28 July 1865 (Wade Scribner, "Scribner Family History" [op. cit.], 11).
After the War, he returned to Patten and worked as a clerk in the store of Gardner and Coburn for six months before going into business for himself as a merchant and farmer. In 1870, he was appointed Trial Justice and Justice of the Peace, a position he was to hold for 35 years. He served in the Lower House of the Maine Legislature in 1885. Other offices that he held were: Selectman of Patten, 1883-1904; Treasurer of Patten, 1893-1900; Town Collector of Patten, 1897-1902. He belonged to the Congregational Church in Patten, and was a Deacon of the church for several years (Sinnett, THE HISTORY OF THE SCRIBNER FAMILIES [op. cit.], 95).2 Daniel Sampson Scribner was born on 8 May 1834 at Springfield, Penobscot, ME, USA.1,2 He was the son of Daniel Scribner and Hannah Sampson.1 Daniel Sampson Scribner began military service in December 1861.1 He was war between 1862 and 1865 at Civil War; Prisoner for a time in Libby prison.1 He ended military service in July 1865.1 He married Tenia A Warren in 1874.1,2 Daniel Sampson Scribner died on 15 October 1913 at Patten, Penobscot, ME, USA, at age 79.1,2 He was buried at Patten Cemetery, Patten, Penobscot, ME, USA; headstone inscribed on the back, "Port Hudson, Opequan Creek, Libby Prison."1

Deacon John Leavitt1,2
M, b. 1608, d. 20 November 1691
Last Edited=19 Jan 2007
Deacon John Leavitt was born in 1608.3 He immigrated in 1628 to Dorchester, Suffolk, MA, USA.4 He was. Tailor.5 He was apprenticeship in 1628; The Dudley Genealogy states "John ran away from an apprenticeship at the age of 19". All early authors and family tradition agree on this fact. If still an apprentice he would have to be under age 21. So being born in 1608, he would not have reached the age of 21 until 1629. This reinforces the statement that 1628 was the year he arriced in America.
As an apprentice John learned the trade of tailoring and went into business in Dorchester. Family tradition, carried on in "The Dudley Genealogy", "The History of Hingham, MA" and "History of Rockingham County", state that after he became possessed of some property in Dorchester his Master learned of his whereabouts, came overseas and took from him his possessions, as by law he was entitled to do. It is known that a man of great wealth, Thomas Makepeace, came to Dorchester and purchased John Leavitt's property prior to his moving to Hingham, but whether this coincides with the apprentice story remains to be seen. "History of Rockingham County, N.H." states: "His master came from England and took away his little property in Dorchester so Deacon John went to Hampton and Exeter N.H. for a time". This statement has possibilities. It may be the reason of five of his sons settling in and near Exeter.6 He lived in 1634 at Dorchester, Suffolk, MA, USA.3 He was church member before 3 March 1635 at Dorchester, Suffolk, MA, USA. Deacon of the church for many years.3,5 He moved in 1636 to Hingham, Plymouth, MA, USA.5 He was freeman on 15 December 1636.3,6 He married Mary Lovet in 1637; Name of his first wife does not appear on Hingham records.6,3,2,5 Deacon John Leavitt married Sarah Gilman, daughter of Edward Gilman and Mary (?), on 15 December 1646.7,6,5 Deacon John Leavitt was elected in 1656. Representatice at the General Court 1656 and 1664.
Selectman 1661, 1663, 1665, 1668, 1672, 1674 and 1675.
Frequently employed on business of the town.3,6 He left a will on 30 November 1689; He is called "taylor". Liberal bequests are made to wife Sarah, and to his nine children and three grandchildren.3 He died on 20 November 1691 at Hingham, Plymouth, MA, USA. Age 83yrs.3,2 His estate was probated on 27 January 1691/92; Will proved.3
