     He married Abigail Kimball. Samuel was born at Bradford, Essex, MA, USA, on 14 January 1697.

     She married Ebenezer Gage. Priscilla was born at Bradford, Essex, MA, USA, on 14 June 1703.

     He married Priscilla Kimball. Ebenezer was born in 1703.

     She married Ephraim Kimball. Mary was born in 1705.

     She married Ephraim Kimball. Sarah was born in 1699.

     He married Ruth (?) Kimball.

     She married David Kimball.

Age 1. He married Mary Smith before 1658. Thomas Kimball died on 3 May 1676 at Bradford, Essex, MA, USA. Killed by the Indians. His wife and five children, Joanna, Thomas, Joseph, Priscilla, John - were taken prisoners and carried forty miles into the wilderness, but were returned on the 13th of June.

     Mary was born at Linebrook Parish, Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA, in 1637. Her married name was Kimball. She married Thomas Kimball before 1658.

     Elizabeth was born at Hapton, Essex, MA, USA, on 5 December 1658.

     Richard was born on 20 November 1659.

     Hannah was born at Linebrook Parish, Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA, on 27 January 1661.

     Joanna was born on 27 January 1661.

     Joseph was born in 1662.

     Mary was born in 1663.

     Ebenezer was born at Bradford, Essex, MA, USA, on 29 April 1668.

     Elizabeth was born on 24 July 1669.

     Priscilla was born on 15 April 1673.

     John was born at Bradford, Essex, MA, USA, on 14 October 1675.

A Short History of the Kemball/Kimballs in New England

The following article is not based on personal research, except for the more recent generations in New Hampshire and Vermont. I have a short list of publications at the end to document where the bulk of the information came from. Some of the information may have been updated by Kimball descendants (or may be known to you, but not to me at this writing).

There are two main Kemball/Kimball immigrant ancestors: Henry and Richard. They both came from England on the ship "Elizabeth" in Apr 1634, and, because ofthis, are presumed to be brothers. In addition, both settled in Watertown, MA. Henry's branch kept the spelling of Kemball, while Richard's changed to Kimball.

Richard is my ancestor coming from Rattesden, Suffolk, England, where he was born about 1595. He married Ursula Scott and they had 8 children, 7 of whom are listed on the ship with them Richard and Ursula first settled in Watertown, then removed to Ipswich, MA in 1637 at the urging of the town who had a need for Richard's skills as a wheelwright. The Kimballs had three more children before Ursula's death abt 1661.

The Kimball men were very active in the founding of early New England towns and politics, often becoming proprietors; surveyors, constables and town overseers, while the women were busy raising large families of 10-14 children! Not only did they cook and clean-they baked the bread, grew the vegetables, made their own soap, and spun the yarn to make the clothes. Hard for us today to imagine doing all that with 11 or 12 kids around!

For three generations, Richard's descendants remained in Massachusetts, then moved northwest into the uncharted lands of New Hampshire, settling first in Hopkinton and Warner in Grafton County. Reuben Kimball (1738-1811) and his father-in-law Daniel Annis, were the first settlers in Warner, NH, a wilderness at that time. Reuben's son Daniel was the first white child born there. Daniel later removed to Canaan, NH, and his son Jesse removed north to Enfield, NH. Jesse's son Dustin Kimball took the family into northern Vermont to Caledonia County, where his daughter married a Stoddard.

Richard was born at Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, in 1595. He married Ursula Scott at St. Nicholas Church, Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, by 1614. Richard Kimball lived in 1634 at Watertown, Middlesex, MA, USA. He was. Wheelwright. Richard immigrated, in April 1634. Destination: Elizabeth. He was freeman on 6 May 1635 at Boston, Suffolk, MA, USA. On 25 July 1636, at Watertown, Middlesex, MA, USA,, Granted fifty acres in the Fourth Division of the Great Dividend at Watertown. He moved in 1637 to Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA. On 23 February 1637, at Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA,, Houselot granted. He and Joseph Fowler lived; Joseph probably resided with his grandfather. His uncle, Richard Kimball, jr, having settled in Wenham, as early as 1656, he appears to have followed him to that place, where he married, and continued to reside during his lifetime. Richard Kimball married Margaret Cole on 23 October 1661. Richard Kimball left a will on 5 March 1674/75. Bequeathed to his wife, eldest son Henry, sons Richard, John, Thomas, Benjamin and Caleb, son-in-law John Stevens, daughters Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah. Also bequeaths to "my wife's children, viz: Thomas, Jerimiah and Mary". Richard died on 22 June 1675 at Linebrook Parish, Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA. His estate was probated on 12 July 1675; Inventory taken. totaled £737 3s. 6d. of which £557 was real estate.

     Ursula was born at Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, in 1597. She was christened at Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, on 14 February 1597. She married Richard Kimball at St. Nicholas Church, Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, by 1614. As of by 1615,her married name was Kimball. Ursula immigrated, in 1634. Destination: Elizabeth. Ursula died in 1667 at New England.

     He married Martha Whatlock (Whotlock) at Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, on 25 July 1594. Henry Scott left a will on 24 September 1623. Bequeaths to grandchildren "Abigail Kembell", "Henry Kemball", Elizabeth and Richard Kemball". Henry died on 24 December 1624 at Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England.

     She married Henry Scott at Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, on 25 July 1594. Martha immigrated, in 1634. Destination: Elizabeth.

     Her married name was Severance. Abigail was born on 5 November 1617.

     He was baptized at Hitcham, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, on 20 February 1614. Religion: (an unknown value). Alexander was born at Hitcham, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, on 20 February 1614.

     He was baptized at Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, on 12 August 1615. Religion: 08/12/1615 Kemball, Henry Richard & Ursala. Henry was born at Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, on 12 August 1615. He immigrated in April 1634 to Boston, Suffolk, MA, USA; Ship Elizabeth from Ipswich, England. William Andrews Master
Age 15. He married Mary Riddlesdale before 1641. Henry Kimball married Elizabeth Black before 1675. Henry Kimball died in 1676. Left 12 children, two of whose name were Richard and John. His second wife was the widow Elizabeth Rayner. She had no children.

Age 9. As of before 1646,her married name was Dutch. She married Robert Dutch before 1646.

     Ursula was born in 1619.

     Elizabeth was born at Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, in 1621. She was baptized at Rattlesden, Suffolk, Suffolk, England, in 1623. Religion: (an unknown value). She immigrated on 20 April 1634 to Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA; In the passenger List of the Elizabeth of Ipswich on 30 April 1634, Elizabeth Kimball, aged 13, is included in the list of children dependent on THURSTON RAYNER. The age is right for the daughter of that name of Richard Kimball, named inher father's will and in the 1623 will of her grandfather Henry Scott. She may well have been put out as a servant to the family of Thurston Rayner, which may in turn indicate that the two families were connected in some way prior to 1634.

Age 3. He married Mary Jordan, daughter of Francis Jordan and Jane Wilson, on 8 October 1666 at Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA; Great Migration has Mary's name as Mary Bradstreet. John Kimball died on 6 May 1698.
