The following is from Perley Family:
Miss Fowler was descended from early and honorable families and persons distinguished in many departments of active life. Her earliest American ancestor of the name, Philip Fowler, born in England in 1590, emigrated to Ipswich, in New England, in the "Mary and John" in 1634.
Richard Jacob, her father's mother's lineal ancestor, came to Ipswich in the same vessel with Mr. Fowler. Mr Jacob's wife was Martha Appleton, a daughter of Samiel Appleton, who was born in Suffolk County, England, in Waldringfield, in 1586. He came to Ipswich, in New England, in 1635.
Mr. Appleton descended through seven generations from John Appleton of Great Waldringfield, who died in 1436. Miss Appleton was also descended from the Everards of Suffolkshire, England.
Miss Fowler was also descended, through her father, from Sir William Herrick of Leicester, England, who was born in 1557. and who resided in his native place, and also in London and Beaumont Park. He removed to London in 1574, to reside with his brother, Nicholas, then an eminent banker in Cheapside, and attached himself to the court. He was a man of great abilities and address; remarkably handsome; and was high in confidence of Queen Elizabeth, as well as King James. In 1605, he received the honor of knighthood. He was descended from Sir William Eyrick, a resident of Stratton, Leicestershire, England, who was commissioned to attend the Prince of Wales on his expedition into Gascony in 1355. This Sir William was a great-grandson of Henry Eyrick, of whom Dean Swift says, that "there is a tradition, well founded, that this Henry was descended from Erick, the Forester, a great commander who raised an army to oppose the invasion of William the Conquerer, by whom he was vanquised; but afterward employed to command the Prince's forces, and in his old age retired to his home in Leicestershire, where his family hath resided ever since"
Miss Fowler was also descened from Joan May, sister of Sir Humphrey May, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, children of Richard May, Esq. of London; and also from John Bond, Esq., of Ward End, Warwickshire, England, as well as of Hugh Laskin, an early emigrant to Salem, from England.
She was also descended from Richard Kimball, who emigrated from England to Ipswich in the "Elizabeth"in 1634, and from Ursula Scott, his wife.
Through her mother, Miss How, she was lineally descended from Robert How of Broad Oak, Hatfield, Essexshire, England, who son James emigrated to Ipswich, in New England, in 1635.
She was also descended from John Dane of Berkhampstead and Bishop's Stortford, County Herts, England; from John Paybody, born in 1586 or 1587, who is said to have been descended from Queen Boadicea; and from Reginald Foster, who was descended from an ancient family in the west of England, connected with those in the North of England, who were distinguised for their exploits against the Scots, mentioned in the "Lay of the Last Minstrel" and in "Marmion."2 Martha was born at Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA, on 1 November 1738.3,4 She was the daughter of John Fowler Jr and Mercy Howe. Martha Fowler was baptized on 22 April 1739 at Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA.1,5,4 As of 10 November 1757,her married name was Perley.6 She married Allen Perley at Linebrook Parish, Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA, on 10 November 1757.6,5,7,4 Martha Fowler died on 3 September 1819 at age 80.4

Philip Fowler was a man of superior ability, and as a merchant, deputy marshal, and attorney, left a good record. He excelled in penmanship, and from his being chosen to appraise numerous estates, must have been a very capable man, and well acquainted with the value of property.
He acquired a large estate, and the homestead of his grandfather, which has been continued in the male line of descent to the present time (1883), over two hundred years, and is occuped now (1883) by Joseph Fowler, [251] High Street, Ipswich, Mass.3 Philip was born at Linebrook Parish, Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA, on 25 December 1648.4,3 He was the son of Joseph Fowler and Martha Kimball. Philip was adopted in 1651.3 He married Elizabeth Herrick at Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA, on 23 January 1672.4,3,5,6 Philip Fowler was court - on 30 July 1673; A complaint is made against Joseph and Phillip Fowler, for assault and battery, in quarrel between Thomas Blanchard and Joseph Folwer, and "Thomas Lull saith, that after the fray was over, he saw Phillip Fowler comeing with hatts in his hand, & askt his brother Joseph, which was his, & he sd, takeing one of them & saying this is myne, then Phillip bid him to be gon, he answered let me alone, I will be gone, or words to that effect, then Phillip sd to me, whatever you have heard or seen, say nothing". Joseph Fowler was fined £3 10s."for whipping Thomas Blanchard," and Phillip Fowler was fined 40s.3 He was a Clothworker.3 He was a witness to the will of John Proctor, senior, of Salem, who was executed for witchcraft on Gallows Hill, in Salem, 19 Aug 1692. He and his brother Joseph strongly opposed the witchcraft delusion. Mr Upham, in his "Salem Witchcraft", also says of Philip Fowler that he "was a leading man, was employed as attorney by the Village Parish in its lawsuit with Mr. Parris, that in 1692 he conducted the proceedings in Court against the head and front of the witchcraft prosecution" and this notices one of his descendats: "Samuel Page Fowler distinguished as an explorer of our early annals and local antiquities. It is an interesting circumstance that in his reprint of the papers of Calef, and in other publications, he has done as much as any other person of our day to bring that whole transaction under the light of truth and justice" on 2 August 1692.3 Philip died on 16 November 1715 at Linebrook Parish, Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA, at age 66.4,6 He was buried at Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA; Gravestone Inscription: "Here lyes intarred what was mortall of Mr Philip Fowler who died November ye 16th 1715 Aged 67 wanting 39 days."3

Destination: Planter.4,5,6 He lived in 1636 at Topsfield, Essex, MA, USA.6 Francis took the oath on on 18 May 1642 at.4,5 He married Mary Foster on 18 May 1642.5,7 Lt Francis Peabody was court - on 4 November 1645 at Ipswich, Essex, MA, USA; From the Peabody Genealogy:
An entry in the oldest book of records of Ipswich court says, under date of Nov 4 1645, that "Eunice Cole is to sit in the stocks at Hampton and to make acknowledgement of her slanderous speeches concerning Sarah Parkings & Lidia pebodye and to pay to the witnes Isaac Perkings 7d and the feas of the court" Eunice Cole's subsequent history, down to her witchcraft trials and imprisonment and her good husband's sorrows are elsewhere sufficiently enlarged on. It is enough for the present purpose to note the intimacy of the Pebody and Perkins families; to hint at a possible relationship of the families; and to make careful note of the name of Francis peabody's wife at that time, "Lydia,", as the historian of Hampton gives it in his genealogies. He also adds a statement that the child of Francis, Lydia by name, was baptized at Hampton Aug 30, 1640. But the same historian tells his readers in his introduction that he had access to records of the church only from a much later date; and none are extant to-day for any where near that time; so that it is a mystery where obtained his entry. The court record, however, attests the name of the wife, and probability supports the historian's statement. Who Lydia was is absolutely unknown, though every shred of contemporaneous record has been searched, it is believed, for information about it. But at some some time after 1649, Francis, a widower, found a "Mary", who was the mother of at least half of the fourteen children of Francis.8 He died on 19 February 1697/98 at Topsfield, Essex, MA, USA.4,6,9
