She The Vermont Watchman (13 April 1887) - The buildings on what is known as the Frank Johnson farm, on West Hill, owned by A.E. Judevine, were burned on the night of April 7th. Joseph Cates Jr was born on 15 August 1752 at Gorham, Cumberland, ME, USA. An intention for the marriage of Joseph Cates Jr and Mary "Molly" Sinclair was made on 25 December 1773 at Gorham, Cumberland, ME, USA. Joseph Cates Jr married Mary "Molly" Sinclair on 13 January 1774 at Gorham, Cumberland, ME, USA. Joseph Cates Jr lived in 1782 at Otisfield, Cumberland, ME, USA; He came from Gorham and bought lot 96 of James Prescott for 30 punds. It was afterward owned by Timothy Fernald and then by James Chase, and afterward part of it was bought for a parsonage. A Sinclair family lived at an early date on lot 97, since owned by Eliphalet Wright and later by Benjamin Knight. Mr. Cates sold to Jess Dunham, mar 1 1809 for $88.31, the NW corner of log 96, containing 2 acres and 151 rods commencing at the most northerly corner of Thomas Robys land. Mr. Cates owned a good farm on which he built good buildings and had just got them finished when he was hurt by saw logs rolling on him crippling him for life, so he ever after went on crutches. Peter Rich, his son-in-law came to live with him and Mr Cates deeded his property to him, Mr Rich giving him a bond for his support. About 1820, Mr Rich sold the old homestead and moved to Harrison and lived for a whileand afterwards moved eastward, throwing his father-in-law upon the town of Harrison as the bond which he had given him for his support had been lost. Mr Cates sued him and was awarded judgement for $1200 by the Law court. He got 59 acres of land in Harrison Dec 15, 1824, which he sold to the town of Harrison for $500, Jan 1 1825. On 4 July 1782, at Otisfield, Cumberland, ME, USA,, Joseph bought lot 96 of James Prescott July 4, 1782 for 30 pounds. It was afterward owned by Timothy Fernald and then by James Chase, and afterward part of it was bought for a parsonage. A Sinclair family lived at an early date on lot 97, since owned by Eliphalet Wight and later by Benjamin Knight. Mr. Cates sold to Jesse Dunham, March 1, 1809 for $ 88.31, the N.W. corner lot 96, containing 2 acres and 151 rods commencing at the most northerly corner of Thomas Roby's land.
